Engaged Futures

Sophie Demay 17-06-2020

Thursdays 18.00 Lecture Theatre A

Playing with tools and ressources, Sophie has devised an online lecture for the distant context, blending live script and desktop videos. The talk will navigate between past and present research projects and her design practice, looking at power structures, post-colonialism and storytelling.

Sophie is a designer and educator, currently teaching at LCC’s MA Graphic Media Design and at Ensad Paris.
Co-founder of design studio ‘In the shade of a tree’ (with MaĆ«l Fournier-Comte), she works in close collaboration with artists and contemporary art galleries on printed matter, exhibitions and publications.
She is engaged in a research on education and has been involved in alternative education projects (Department 21, Parallel School of Art). Between 2014 and 2019, she co-run the Education Unit of the Expanded Designer, an undergraduate contextual programme at Camberwell College of Arts (together with the Serpentine Gallery education team).
Her current research projects include: ‘The figure of the Joker as a metaphor/method for teaching’ and ‘The visual essay: a critical site for design inquiry’ (with Paul Bailey).
